Programs to Improve Core Stability

Simple movements such as bending down and putting on your shoes or standing still, rely on the strength and stability of your core. Your core is more than just the abdominal muscles. It is made up of a group of muscles that supports the spine and pelvis. A strong core promotes good posture and reduces the wear and tear on your spine. The PG Pelvic Floor & Core Rehabilitation Centre offers core programs in the Prince George area. If you’re dealing with pelvic floor dysfunction, back pain or need to retrain your core, get in touch with our experienced professionals.

Range of Conditions We Treat

Your core stabilizes your body, allowing you to move in all directions without losing your balance. When this ability slows down or is hindered, it’s an indication that your core needs to be retrained. A lack of muscular development can result in an injury which can take time to heal. Some of the commonly treated conditions include:

Chronic back conditions

Degenerative disc disease

Osteoarthritis

Chronic back pain

Chronic hip pain

Herniation

Pelvic health conditions

Incontinence

Prolapse

Pelvic pain

Diastasis recti

Abdominal scaring

Post-pregnancy

What You Need to Know About Real-Time Ultrasound

Real-time ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive and painless way of evaluating the pelvic floor and abdominal muscle tone and activation using sound waves. A water-soluble gel is applied on the skin after which a small transducer is placed directly on top of the skin. The high-frequency sound waves are transmitted through the body and back to the transducer which is then computed into an image, which is viewed on a screen. Unlike X-rays, ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation and does not expose the patient to any radiation.

Initail core assessment

Initial Core Assessments with Real-Time Ultrasound

This is a 50-minute assessment where we discuss your health history, symptoms and most importantly your activity goals. We complete an objective assessment of your core muscles (including checking for diastasis recti), and use real-time ultrasound as a biofeedback tool to visually see how your abdominals and pelvic floor muscles are working. We provide you with the basic core exercises to help retrain your core. A report is then given to you and/or your doctor. This assessment provides us with the information needed to customize your program and guide you on your journey back to health.

Core Progressions

Core Progression Sessions

These are 30-minute one-on-one sessions with our kinesiologist designed to progress your core program with your individual goals in mind. These sessions are great for increasing your activity after pregnancy, injury, or even if you have been suffering from chronic pains and are not sure where to start from.

Real time ultrasound

Real-Time Ultrasound Sessions

During these 30-minute one-on-one sessions with our kinesiologist, we use the real-time ultrasound as a biofeedback tool to see how well your muscles are performing. These sessions are great for checking in on how you are doing with your pelvic floor and core exercises. As the real-time ultrasound machine is portable, we can assess the movements you are struggling with the most.
